Gold Coast-based Kate Peters is a professional director, producer, performer and publicist who also runs her own production company, Top Hat Productions.
Born in Sydney and having lived and worked in numerous cities in Australia and overseas, she is best known for her comedic roles in major musical theatre productions and her one-woman cabaret shows. Since re-locating to the Gold Coast from Canberra she has toured major Queensland venues with four of her shows, and regularly stages pantomimes, musical revues and other major shows in a variety of theatres. She is in demand as a guest director for various companies both on the Gold Coast and farther afield, and regularly performs interstate.
In addition to performing, producing and directing professionally, Kate is a strong supporter of community theatre and in 1994 was co-creator of the Canberra Area Theatre Awards, set up to acknowledge the contribution of community theatre groups in the A.C.T. In 2008 she created theGold Coast Area Theatre Awards, devoted to acknowledging and rewarding the achievements of local actors and community theatre companies in the Gold Coast region. From a modest beginning, the annual "Palmies" Award Night has rapidly blossomed into a glittering function recognised as one of the most important events on the local entertainment industry calendar.
Since May 2001 her weekly Gold Coast Bulletin showbiz column, Dressing Roomers, has entertained readers with news about local and interstate professional and community theatre productions and entertainers.
In 2009 Kate was awarded the Gold Coast City Council Australia Day Cultural Achievement Award for services to Entertainment on the Gold Coast.
